A local organization, Zoe Empowers, formerly Zoe Ministries, has donated textbooks valued at K1.3 Million to Chimungu Primary School in Dowa.
The donation is part of the commemoration of the Day of an African Child held at the school grounds on Tuesday to help improve child education standards in the district.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the organization’s senior programs facilitator, Esther Chinkhadze said the organization must complement government efforts in improving the education service delivery.
She said: “Besides supporting children in paying fees, uniforms, and other school materials as our thematic area, we felt it was imperative that we also donate textbooks to enhance teaching and learning at the school.”
Chief Education Officer for Dowa District Battson Kangulu said the donation was timely as the school was experiencing inadequate textbooks among others.
“We greatly appreciate the support that we have received from Zoe. This will help ease the textbook challenges that we have been going through,” he said.
Apart from supporting children’s education, the organization also provides farm inputs, livestock, and agricultural training to orphans and other vulnerable children through community connection projects to help them become self-reliant.
