MACRA warns vendors and suppliers about substandard cement blocks

Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has learned with deep concern over some vendors and suppliers who are supplying substandard cement blocks to the Connect-A-School project.
According to a statement released on June 23, 2024, and signed by MACRA Director General, Daudi Suleman says it is very worrisome and it also poses a serious risk to the integrity and safety of the structures that are being built in the country.
” The use of substandard materials poses a serious risk to the integrity and safety of the structures being built.
” This compromises not only the quality of the construction but also the safety of the students and staff who will be using these facilities.”
Suleman further says once the vendors and suppliers have been found supplying substandard cement blocks will be punished and also blacklisted from supplying the cement blocks.
” Concerned suppliers and vendors will face further sanctions, which may include being blacklisted from future MACRA projects and potential legal actions.”
MACRA is constructing some school blocks across the country under the project of Connect – A- School project aimed at empowering the students in local areas to have access to learning and the use of technical equipment.
