MNCS Suspends all sports activity in Malawi



The Malawi National Council of Sports has suspended all sports activities in the country as the country is mourning the death of Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and other eight others who died on Monday, June 10,2024 in a plane crash.

According to a press statement released on Wednesday, June 12,2024 and has signed by MNSC Executive Secretary Henry Kamata say this is in respect to those who lost their lives and per government direction that the country will mourn the death of Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima for 21 days.

“Following the tragic demise of the country’s Vice-President, Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and eight officials, and the subsequent declaration of the 21-day mourning period MNCS would like to advise all sports associations and affiliates to suspend all sporting activities until further notice temporarily,”

This comes after the Football governing body FAM and Superleague of Malawi SULOM also suspended all games this week until further notice.

The body of the late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima will be laid to rest in his home district Ntcheu on Monday, June 17, 2025.
