Madise appointed AFIDEP President

Professor Nyovani Madise, who is Director of Development Policy and Head of the Malawi Office of the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) has been appointed as President of the Union for African Population Studies, (UAPS).
This was announced on Wednesday, May 29 in Lilongwe at the closing of the five-day 9th African Population Conference, a gathering that brings together researchers, policymakers, and others from across Africa and beyond to discuss issues about the population in the continent.
Prof. Madise has taken over the presidency from Dr Donatien Beguy.
Before her role at AFIDEP, Prof. Madise served as Professor of Demography and Social Statistics at the University of Southampton, where she also held several leadership positions, including Associate Dean (Research) and Deputy Head of the School of Social Sciences.
Among others, delegates to the conference have resolved that researchers from Africa should lead in research activities on population happening in the continent as well as ensuring that issues of population are given priority.
