Salima South East lawmaker hails MACRA for bailing out Lungumadzi CDSS
Salima South East lawmaker, Mike Mwawa has hailed Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority(Macra) for bailing out Lungumadzi CDSS in the area of Senior Chief Kambwiri through the provision of a computer laboratory.
Mwawa added the school needs to be electrified, a project which he said is underway.
He further disclosed that a girls’ hostelwhich started, was temporarily suspended due to financial constraints.
The MP was speaking on Monday during the ground breaking ceremony of the computer laboratory at the school.
Macra’s Deputy Director of Consumers Affairs, Kelious Mlenga said they aim to reach out to primary and secondary schools in rural areas with computer labs to enhance technology among students.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Kambwiri called on the students to embrace the development; saying they are lucky to get the laboratory.
Macra is implementing a ‘Connect-A-School’ project with funds from Universal Service Fund.
Computer labs also allow students to gain hands-on experience in computer science, particularly in areas like system and network administration . Additionally, computer labs are essential for colleges and universities to provide information technology training and enhance students’ IT skills .
Electricity allows for better lighting conditions, controlled classroom temperature, and improved productivity and well-being of students and teachers .
The hostel life also allows the girls to learn important life skills, such as time management, teamwork, and communication and fosters a sense of community. The hostel staff plays a crucial role in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for the girls, which is essential for their overall development.
