Man dies of excessive alcohol consumption in Mzimba

A 69-year-old man, Jackson Mvula has been found dead along the road at Luwerezi due to excessive alcohol consumption in the district.

The incident took place during the night of April 22, 2024 when a passerby discovered him lying cold in a drainage along Jenda-Luwerezi road

It has been established that Jackson Mvula (now deceased) left home around 10:00 hours in the morning on Aprill 22, 2024 and went to a drinking spree where he was seen drinking kachasu at Kandezu trading centre the whole day. He was later in the night discovered lying unconscious along the road.

The matter was reported at Luwerezi Police Unit where Police officers together with medical personnel, visited the scene. He was confirmed dead at the scene, the body was taken to Luwerezi health centre for examination.

Postmortem conducted at the facility has revealed that death was due to low blood sugar (Hypoglycaemia), caused by excessive alcohol consumption on an empty stomach. No foul play suspected.

Jenda police station would like to refute any rumours that some quarters had a hand in the death of Jackson Mvula, as postmortem report has proven to the contrary on earlier claims, further the police would like to warn members of the community and all stakeholders to avoid alcohol consumption without proper meals.

Mvula hailed from Kando village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba district.
