Three nabbed for possessing cannabis at Jenda in Mzimba
Days after Parliament passed to regalise Local Cannabis bill Police at Jenda in Mzimba have apprehended three people for being found in possession of cannabis sativa without permit at Luviri area whilst attempting to transport the drugs to Lilongwe.
The arrests came after Police detectives got tipped off that some unknown people at Luviri area were possessing Indian hemp and were searching for transport to Lilongwe. Acting on a tip off, in the evening of March 30, 2024 police detectives conducted an intelligence driven operation which led to their arrests.
During the arrests, a woman Pilirani Phiri 46, together with her two accomplices Stanely Mologeni 34, and Ryford Wagiwa 37, were found in possession of 10 basins of cannabis sativa disguised as tomato, each weighing 11 kilograms and a sack bag weighing 10 kilograms, a fourth suspect bolted leaving behind a laptop bag of same sativa weighing five kilograms.
The suspects have been charged with being found in possession of cannabis sativa without a licence. All suspects will appear before court after the completion of the paper work.
Meanwhile police at Jenda would like to applaud members of the community for their continued support to end crime, further people are reminded that to cultivate or possession of cannabis sativa without a licence is still an offence under the laws of Malawi.
Pilirani Phiri comes from Phalombe, Stanely Mologeni comes from Dedza whilst Ryford Wagiwa comes from Thyolo district and they all conduct their businesses in Lilongwe.
