NWRA drills Karonga ADCs on management of water resources

The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) summoned Area Development Committes (ADCs) from Karonga with the purpose of sharing with them mandate and functions of the organization.

During the gathering NWRA spokesperson Masozi Kasambala emphasized on how the ADCs are important across the country in ensuring that there is sanity in the management of water resources.

Speaking to the media after the gathering Kasambala said that they are on a national tour to interact with the ADCs.

“We are on a national wide tour to interact with ADCs with the main purpose of sharing with them the mandate and functions of NWRA at the same we are stressing to them that according to National Resources Act no one is supposed to undertake any water related development minus authorization from NWRA, this message is very important because it ensures that as a nation we have sustainable water resources for all and at the same time the water our people do access access is of acceptable quality”. Said Kasambala

In his conclusion Kasambala emphasized that every citizen must take an active role in as far as management and regulation of water resources is concerned.

” Water is life therefore every citizen of this nation must take an active role in as far as management and regulation of water resources is concerned so that as a nation we have sustainable water for all and at the same time access water which is of acceptable quality”. Concluded Kasambala

Meanwhile, Mbande ADC member Kenwood Nthakomwa described the initiative as important but it has come abit late.

“The meeting was very important but I feel like the Government has come in abit late because it will be very difficult for us to educate or sit down with our fellow villagers as you know traditionally people think water belongs to God and not the Government but am optimistic that people will understand us since they trust us and also its high time that they should understand that water should be protected”. Said Nthakomwa
