Intense NRFA Top 4 Bonanza is Back this Weekend
By Victor Stephan…….
The Northern Region Football Association says all is set for this year’s Top 4 bonanza at Karonga stadium in Karonga where last season’s top four teams will battle out for the ultimate prize.
The first game will see last season champions Baka City take on Kadona Stars from Nkhata Bay while Iponga FC will face Embangweni United later in the day with third place between the losers and finals for the winners expected on Sunday.
The bonanza has proven to be tough as no promoted team has won it except Chitipa who made history last year when they won both the league and the send off bonanza.
Speaking ahead of the games Baka City Team Manager Alick Zungu says his team is ready to grab the bonanza while anticipating tough games.
“We have a pool of players and are geared up to grab this year’s bonanza though we know it will not be easy so all soccer lovers should come and see good display from our side.” Zungu said confidently.
Kadona Stars Technical Director Phillip Ndambo says all is well in their camp while promising to showcase good football against Karonga based Baka City.
“We have lost some players to other teams and we have about 10 new players who have to impress us to be with the team for this season.” Ndambo said in an interview.
Coach for Iponga FC Edwin Kaonga says his team is geared up to use the bonanza for team building apart from targeting the bonanza’s monetary benefits.
“We have both last season and new players ready for this year’s season we have also promoted some from reserve so it’s our opportunity to fine tune our team back we are also targeting prize money though we are coming from off season.” said Kaonga.
Previously Rumphi Pirates defeated Karonga United in the inaugural 2018 bonanza while Baka City defeated Chitipa United in 2019 at Base ground in Chitipa with Rumphi United winning 2020 bonanza where champions Ekwendeni Hammers failed to reach finals in Rumphi the same history happened in Nkhata Bay where Champions Rumphi United were booted out in the first game and KV went on to win the bonanza in 2022, Chitipa United made history last year in Mzimba where they defeated Mzimba United.
Apart from Top 4 bonanza NRFA will also have prize presentation for Simso Innobuild League where teams and individuals will be awarded for their exceptional performance last season’s league at Karonga Museum in Karonga.
