A primary school teacher in Lilongwe Urban Josophine Chizembe, has called on President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera to institute an independent commission of inquiry into the teacher’s promotions that sat for aptitude test interviews between October and November, 2022 across the country.

Chizembe said the results of the interviews held did not reflect the truth of what is on the ground claiming that successful teachers were invited to go to their respective District Education Managers offices to sign promotion forms through phone calls.

She said out of those who were promoted, are IPTE 7,8,9 and 10 teachers to PT3 grades leaving behind those that started working in 1994 because they do not have connections at the Capital hill and State House a development which is worrisome.

The teacher said some teachers have jumped two steps from PT3 to PT1 describing this as unusual and in some houses, both the man and woman promoted a development which demand urgent investigations.

Chizembe said primary school teachers across the country are not happy besides government promoting some secondary school teachers which has earned praises on social media platforms as if government has promoted all teachers to various grades in the teaching profession.

She was warned government that if the situation remains as it is in primary schools where some are being promoted dubiously, President Chakwera and his MCP should expect to receive zero votes from teachers in the 2025 elections.

The teacher has reminded government that the Ministry of Education through the teaching department, is the largest employer in the civil service and if teachers are not happy after staying at one grade for 15 years without promotions, they will judge Chakwera on the ballot paper in 2025.

“Teachers that have spent 15 years without promotions, IPTE 13,14,15,16, and 17 teachers with no hope of being employed in government, a time bomb to President Chakwera and his MCP,” said Chizembe.

She has challenged President Chakwera to send his informants to any school of his choice to verify this and prove her wrong, assuring him that teachers are not happy and no one is ready to vote for him to bounce back into government if the elections are held today or tomorrow.

Chizembe has since advised President Chakwera and his MCP led government to adopt the system taken by former presidents Madam Dr. Joyce Banda and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to promote all teachers that have stayed for years without promotions, failing to adopt this, he is hanging himself on the Cross.
