Karonga By-elections: Changa’anamuno Rallies Support for MCP Aspirants

Monica Changa’anamuno a senior official from the Malawi congress party (MCP) who is also the Minister of Mining, has urged the residents of Karonga to exercise their democratic rights by turning out in large numbers to vote in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for March 26 in three wards.

The minister made the call on Wednesday, at Mwanjabala in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu as she rallied support for three aspiring MCP ward councilors in the upcoming polls while also offering encouragement to flood-affected individuals.

Changa’anamuno emphasized the importance of active participation in the democratic process, highlighting the significant role that local council representatives play in addressing community needs and concerns.

She reiterated the value of each citizen’s vote in shaping the future direction of their locality, encouraging them to vote for MCP candidate.

“Voting for MCP candidates ensures that our communities are led by individuals committed to inclusive progress and responsive governance and as well as advancing the President’s development agenda,” she said.

On his part, MCP Karonga District Chairperson, James Nkhoma, expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s aspirants, affirming their capability to emerge victorious in the upcoming polls.
“We are confident in our aspirants’ ability to emerge victorious in the upcoming polls, as their dedication to serving our communities is unmatched,” articulated Nkhoma.

The March 26th by-elections were sanctioned following the conviction of three ward councilors from Chilanga and Rukulu Wards in Karonga Northwest Constituency, and Kaporo Ward in Karonga North Constituency respectively by the Karonga First Magistrate Court.

Their convictions were on offences involving dishonesty.
