Logistics and supply chain services provider, Air Cargo Malawi Limited says it is impressed with the approval from government for the company to start transporting pharmaceutical products across some countries in the world.

Chief executive officer for the company Thokozani Unyolo said this in Blantyre during a pharmaceutical workshop organised for the banks and pharmaceutical companies in the southern region.

Unyolo said the office of president and cabinet approved the proposal for the company to start transporting pharmaceutical products across the world in February last year.

,,
The agreement is that we should either purchase our own plane or lease out a plane which will be transporting pharmaceutical products from or to some countries around the world, she said

Unyolo said the idea behind the deal is to address some logistical challenges that the pharmaceutical companies were facing in transporting products across the world.

,,
We have also noted that our export base is very low, hence, the need to scale up by helping exporting some products to other countries, thereby reducing the forex hitches, she said

According to the chief executive officer, the company signed an addendum to bring goods in the country in large volumes and allow the clients to pay in local currency.

According to her, the company is currently is finalising some administration issues so that it rolls out the business in due course.

,,
We will shortly roll out the deal after our discussion on fair and competitive prices with our clients, she said

In a separate interview, Andrew Chivalire from pharmachemie limited said the initiative will benefit the pharmaceutical sector on time frame challenges which has been haunting the companies.

He said some consignments ended up being expired in transit due to logistical challenges.
