Former Flames Goal Stopper Died


FAM has learnt with great sadness the death of former Flames goalkeeper Charles Swini who passed on this morning at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe following a short illness.

More details about the funeral programme will communicated later.

FAM General Secretary Alfred Gunda, has on behalf of FAM and the entire football fraternity in the country, extended heartfelt condolences to the Swini family.

“In this sorrowful time, we would like to extend to the family of Swini our heartfelt condolences. May our Lord comfort you and your loved ones in these trying times. Our prayer is that the soul of Charles should rest in eternal peace,” said Gunda.

Swini earned 35 caps for the Flames, keeping 17 cleansheets.

He made his debut on 25th October 2009 as Flames lost 1-0 to Mozambique in a Cosafa Cup quarterfinal match in Harare, Zimbabwe.
