Man Dies due to Excessive Drinking in Rumphi

A 61 year old man identified as Patrick Mzumala has suddenly died due to low levels of blood glucose after taking excessive local beer in Rumphi district.

On January 22, 2024, Mzumala went to a near by village to drink local beer and afterward he was seen going back to his house carrying a sack bag containing dry flue tobacco.

The following day, on January 23, 2024, Mzumala was found lying dead by his brother two kilometres away from his farm when he was going to his tobacco field.

Police officers and a medical personel rushed to the scene and conducted a postmortem which revealed that death was due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Police in the district are urging people to avoid taking alcohol on an empty stomach.

Mzumala hailed from Kaputa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwahenga in Rumphi district.
