Meet Annie Simwaka a Civo-Nets Netballer, in Women in Sports Wednesday

Annie started her netball career in Karonga her home district while in primary school since then she has been improving her game.
While in secondary school she was selected to be part of Massa north select during the Copa Cocacola competition and she was among one of the best players of the competition.
Her club career started at Baka sisters where she played for some years before being spotted by north giants Karonga queens but didn’t play for a longtime before she was signed by Civonets in 2021 where she plays now.
Simwaka is also one of the players who plays for Malawi national team team B which was assembled last year in preparation for Pacific tournament and World cup and she says she will break into the senior team very soon.
She has some accolades like best defender at Massa games, best defender and best player at a tournament which was organised by Netball Association of Malawi in the northern region while playing for Baka Sisters, best player of season at Civonets junior.
Her biggest achievement is joining Civonets which she never expected and also being selected for the Queens team b.
She looks up to Towera Vinkhumbo as they both play the same position.
Apart from netball she also plays womens football mostly during off season for Karonga United Sisters.
Her message: I once had a dream to play netball at a highest level and here I am now living my dreams playing for one of the big teams on the land and also for my country so i want to encourage my fellow netballers from rural areas not to give up but always focus on your goal and one day it will be fulfilled.
