Four teams have reached the semifinals of Mzuzu District Football Association Fam league following their triumph over the weekend.
On Saturday last season’s finalists Blue Sport thumped Enyezini by four goals to nil at Ekwendeni Community ground where Moyale Barracks Reserve beat Chikago 2-1 to progress.
Sunday Sonda United hammered Holera Fc 3 nil at Ekwendeni Community ground while at Botanic ground Dairy FC Academy progressed 3-1 on penalties against Eagle Strikers after regulation time ended one all, ironically this was the third time the teams met having faced twice in group stages.
After the game coach for Eagle Strikers Charles Bulu Nkhoma accepted the defeat saying his players lacked composure while describing the cup as vital for talent development.
“We had a good game but my boys missed a lot of chances and in penalties they scored once most of them it was their first time to take penalties so it was difficult for them but this cup has shown us we have talent the cup should continue.” Nkhoma said.
Leo Nyasulu coach for Dairy FC Academy was delighted with the win describing the game as one of the toughest facing the same side for the third time in the same league while aiming for the final.
“It was a difficult game I told them to take it easy in penalties so we did it better than our opponents you know we met the same team twice in group stages but looking forward we want to get better of Moyale in semifinals we want to reach finals.” Nyasulu said.
The semifinals which are slatted for this coming weekend will see Moyale Barracks Reserve face Dairy Academy FC while Blue Sport will face Sonda United.
The champion will pocket K1 000,000 a rise from K500 000 last season following a rise of sponsorship from K2 million to K3 million.
The district leagues are sponsored by the Football Association of Malawi to the tune of K3 Million per district.
