Moyale Barracks pull a remarkable win to escape relegation, Medhealth promises more support

A day to remember, Moyale Barracks pulled a remarkable victory over Red Lions to escape from the relegation chop on the very last day of the season at the Mzuzu Stadium.

The Lions of Kaning’ina put seven past already relegated Red Lions to stay in the elite league despite matching with Blue Eagles on points and goal difference.

Heading into the game, the Mzuzu based Soldiers were 13th on the table, five teams were playing for their survival. Extreme FC and Red Lions were already relegated, one team was needed to follow them.

A difficult first half was followed by six goals in the second half. Moyale Barracks were going to the break while leading 1-0 as Raphael Phiri had converted from the spot.

With the goal difference putting them at a disadvantage, the hosts were needed to score six goals in the second half.

Mafco FC were 1-0 up against Blue Eagles at Nankhaka stadium, giving Moyale the hope for survival.

Gastin Sinkonda put on a one-man show in the second half as he scored four times, taking his tally to 12 this season while Raphael Phiri added one.

Former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets defender, George Luiz Nyirenda had a memorable season, hitting the vital goal for his new home. His goal from free-kick beat Nenani Juwaya in the injury time to confirm Moyale’s survival.

Moyale Barracks have survived over Blue Eagles on Head to Head results as they pulled a 1-0 win away from home in the second half of the season.

Medhealth promises to continue sponsoring the team

Following the team’s survival from the relegation, the official sponsors of Moyale Barracks, Medhealth have promised to continue pumping their support into the team.

The Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Bright Kamanga said good things will come from Medhealth to Moyale after a super league stay.

“Am happy and I love Moyale Barracks. As Medhealth, we promise to continue supporting and sponsoring Moyale Barracks and many good things are coming,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamanga has appealed to the technical panel to quickly identify the 2023 weaknesses and rectify it in time.

Moyale Barracks General Secretary Lt Mike Chimwala thanked MEDHEALTH for the gesture.
