Man hangs Over Family Wrangles in Mzimba

A 55-year – old man, Stalico Nkhoma, has hanged himself under a tree in Champhira forest in Mzimba district after taking a fight with his brother.

It is alleged that on May 7, 2023 Stalico Nkhoma, and his brother Cleanwel Nkhoma had disagreements over family issues which resulted into a fight.

During the fight, Cleanwel Nkhoma severely wounded, and opted to report the matter to Champhira Police post for assistance.

While at the police, he was issued with a referral letter to Katete Mission Hospital where he got admitted.

On May 9, 2023 after receiving the summon from the police, it is alleged that Sitalico Nkhoma told his wife that he was going to Champhira forest, and also told his son that when he is gone, he should make sure to maintain his customary land boundaries.

Upon hearing the story, the Village Head instituted a search party and Stalico was later found hanging under a tree in the forest.

The police together with a clinical officer from Jenda Health Centre visited the scene.

The postmortem results indicate that death was due to suffocation.

The police is advising people to seek help in times of stress and depression as suicide is not a solution.

Stalico Nkhoma hailed from Kamtagwala Village, Traditional Authority Mzikubola in the District.
