Agriculture expert recommends Government for the early preparations of the 2022-2023 Affordable farm inputs program ( AIP) this year.
Government through the ministry of Agriculture is planning to commerce the AIP program by July this year and expect to finalise it by November. The minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale has assured Malawians that all logists are in place and that this year the program will not face hicupps.
Leonard Chimwaza, one of the Agriculture expert says Government should take advantage of the low demand of fertiliser on the international market so that fertiliser should be available in the country by June-July. This will help in the quality of production to have in the 2023-2024 season.
” Fertilizer is the key product in farming, delays in fertilizer application agronomically lead to poor growth of plants which affects the productivity output to be released by farmers.”
2022-2023 AIP program was meant to carter over 2 million famers in the country . The program faced a number of challenges in implementation and some beneficiaries of AIP in the country have not received their fertiliser.
Among those that government has not delivered them fertiliser are others who were screened and paid the 30 thousand Kwacha for two bags .
Kawale said such famers should not worry as fertiliser will be provided to them.
