…… Pledges to hike the NRFA top 4 Bonanza sponsorship……

The newly elected Super League of Malawi President, Fleetwood Haiya has pledged to hike the Northern Region Football Association top 4 Bonanza sponsorship to K5 Million from K2.4 Million.

Speaking at Chiwanja Ground In Mzimba on Saturday where he graced the 2023 NRFA top 4 Bonanza, Haiya said supporting the grassroots level football will help to develop football in the country and also strengthen the Malawi National Football Team.

“Every year NRFA organises this event and I do participate and witness the talent from the youths. You know if you’re talking about football development then we need to talk about grassroot football, this is why I am always kin to be always part of this event.

“Today we have seen beautiful football, skills and talent that youths have and we indeed we need to motivate and empower these youths. I believe that if these youths are empowered, and encouraged one day they will play in the national team which can improved squads in our league and national teams”, Said Haiya.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Vice-President has been supporting the tournament since its inception in 2018 and justifying his decision of hiking the sponsorship with over 100%, Haiya said the rising of costs of living forces him to make the decision.

“I have been supporting this tournament since its inception [2018]. I pledged K2 Million last year and this year, I have pumped in K2.4 Million. [Come] next year, we can’t be stagnant at K2.4 Million with the rising of costs of living.

“This should be a motivating factor to the teams that are going to play in the Simama League this year,” adds Haiya.

Meanwhile, Haiya has appealed to the communities and other stakeholders to keep on supporting the teams playing in the lower leagues as they bring entertainment in their areas.

He said, “It is my wish to see such small teams being sponsored by the corporate world.”

Northern Region Football Association Chairperson, Dr Lameck Khonje said the association is delighted to know that they already have a sponsor for the next year’s edition of top 4 Bonanza.

“This will bring up a lot of competition in our teams this season,” said Khonje.

The Northern Region ambassador in the tnm Super League, Chitipa United were crowned the champions of the four-member tournament organised by the Northern Region Football Association on Saturday.

The 2022 Innobuild and Simso Northern Region Football League Champions booted out Kadona FC from the tournament before edging out Mzimba United 5-4 on penalties after a 1-all stalemate in regulation time.

This is a tournament that the Football Association in North do organize to mark a send off of the team that is representing the Association in the elite league.

Haiya is also eyeing the top position in Football Association of Malawi FAM in the next Elective General Meeting scheduled in December this year.
