CID Police officer Mbandambanda convicted for Corruption

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has confirmed that Margret Mbandambanda who was a criminal Investigation Detective police officer at Limbe police station has been convicted for corruption charges.

According to the statement signed by ACB Principal public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala say the bureau received a complaint on 19 June 2018 an allegation that criminal Investigation Detective police officer Margret Mbandambanda was demanding an amount between K100,000 to K150,000 from a relation of a suspect inorder to be released on police bail.

The letter continue to say that ACB investigations established that police officer Mbandambanda had received K100,000 from the suspect relation as an advantage to release the suspect on police bail bail which was supposed to be granted for free.

Later on the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested police officer Margret Mbandambanda on 28 October 2020 and was taken to Blantyre senior Resident Magistrate court where she was charged with three count of Receiving advantage, soliciting advantage and misuse of public office which is contrary to section 24(1) and 25B(1) of the corrupt practices act.

On March 21,2023 the Blantyre senior Resident Magistrate court convicted and revoked the bail for police officer Margret Mbandambanda to all three counts charged and has set April 5,2023 for sentencing.
