Cyclone Freddy forces Education ministry to suspend classes in southern Region

The Ministry of Education suspends classes for two days in the southern region districts of Malawi due to cyclone Freddy effects.
In the letter from the Ministry of Education it states the Ministry being warned by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological services, that the cyclone will be hitting the region with direct effects and expected to die down by Tuesday tomorrow 14 March 2023 .

The districts affected by the cyclone are Nsanje, Chikwawa, Blantyre, Chiradzulu, Nemo, Zomba,Thyolo, Mwana, phalombe and Mulanje. As a temporary measure the ministry has suspended physical classes in all institutions and those in boarding schools are advised to stay indoors.
Learners and teachers have been encouraged to use the online platforms and radio programs in the suspension period .Teachers have also been argued to provide remedial classes to cover time lost on Wednesday when classes resume.
In response to the situation the Ministry of Health in partenership with plan International, UNICEF, Red cross and World Health Organisations (WHO) in action has sent medical supplies in the region to offer health services to prevent contacting water born diseases like diarrhoea and cholera which the country is alredy battling with currently.

Those sent to provide medical services are our fellow Malawian medical personnels and other foreign medical experts from the United Kingdom.
