Pupil dies in Mzimba road accident

A 6-year-old girl in Mzimba District has died after being hit by a cruising vehicle at Wateleka area along the Mzuzu -Jenda M1 road.

The deceased has been identified as Chifundo Nyirenda, a learner at Lupuha Primary School in the district.

Chifundo met her fate on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at around 13:30 hours while coming from school with colleagues.

She was hit by a vehicle registration number TO 4660 Toyota Fortuner, driven by Emmanuel Ndilowe 44, of Mikuju Village in Traditional Authority Ndindi in Salima District.

Ndilowe was driving from Mzuzu heading Jenda direction. Upon arrival at Wateleka area, as he was exchanging direction with other vehicle, he hit Chifundo who was crossing the road from the right to the left hand side of the road.

Following the impact, Chifundo sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Mzimba District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Postmoterm results revealed that Chifundo died due to severe head injuries.

Chifundo Nyirenda hailed from Lazaro Kaunda Village in Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba District.
