Man commits suicide in Likoma
A 24-year-old man in Likoma District has died suddenly after hanging himself in a tree near his house at Mbamba area on February 11,2023.
The man identified as Charles Mawira is alleged to have committed suicide on reasons yet to be known.
According to the report, the man left home in the morning of February 11, 2023 untill late in the afternoon when he reported back while drunk.
Mawira didn’t stay long at home, he sneaked out and went missing at around 13:00 hours and was found hanging in the bush at 17:00 hours.
Postmortem conducted at St Peters Mission Hospital established that death was due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Meanwhile, Police in the district are condemning the tendency of commiting suicide, and appealing to people to always seek assistance from police and other authorities whenever they encounter peace infringing situations.
Charles Mawira hailed from Chalunda Village in Traditional Authority Mkumpha in Likoma District.
