Two drown in mzimba
In Mzimba District, two men have drowned in Kawanda river within Enukweni on February 04, 2023 at around 16:30hrs.
The deceased have been identified as Penjani Kanyimbo,51 and Godfrey Mbizi, 48.
It is reported that on the stated date, a party of 6 boarded Toyota Hilux reg number SA 9186 to Chimfwansala Village for field work.
On their way, heavy rains started and upon reaching Kawanda river they attempted to cross the river before it got full. In the process, the vehicle got stuck in the mud and that resulted into the vehicle to capsizing due to increasing pressure of running water.
Four people managed to escape, however the remaining two drowned.
Search only managed to recover the body of the driver.
Dead body has been taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital pending postmortem. The body of Mbizi is still missing.
Police is advising members of the general public to avoid crossing flooding rivers during rainy season to avoid preventable incidents.
