Two brothers in for Robbery in Mzimba


Mzimba Police Station is keeping in custody two brothers who have been robbing people in Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba, as well as Mzuzu City.

The duo have have been identified as Blessings and Chimwemwe Chiumia, both of 22 years old.

The Chiumia brothers have been committing the crime by childlocking the doors of their taxi and later rob passengers in different roads of Nkhata Bay, Rumphi, Mzimba, and Mzuzu.

They were arrested at the Police Road Block at Raiply in Mzimba District after Police received a complaint from one of the passengers who boarded the Chiumia’s taxi at Mzimba National Bank premises on Tuesday January 24, 2023, and only to be dropped off before reaching to her destination.

The passenger realized few minutes later that she has been robbed a purse in which there was cash amounting to K35,000.00 plus a Smart phone Tecno Spark 4.

So far, two cellphones,Techno spark 4 and Q6, 2 purses have been recoverd from them and some of these items have been positively identified by owners.

As the investigations continue, Police are asking members of public with information about the whereabouts of the other suspect popularly known as Bwito who escaped during the arrest.

The two brothers will appear in court soon to answer Robbery charges.

Police in the district are advising members of the public to be vigilant whenever they are boarding taxis.

The Chiumia brothers hail from Chigwere Village in Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District.
