Govt vows to construct an interchange in Blantyre


The Malawi Government through the ministry of Transport and Public Works has vowed to construct an interchange in the Commercial City, Blantyre.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara made the pledge in Blantyre on Friday after touring the stalled K4.6 Billion Blantyre by-pass Road and Chileka Road respectively.
Hara said the interchange which is set to become the second one in Malawi, will help in easing traffic jam in the City.
He said that the Tonse Alliance Government is committed to construct the interchange but currently, [Government] is engaging engineers to come up with a designs – and the interchange will be situated where the by-pass Road will be connecting with the main road.

Hara further assured Malawians of government’s commitment to complete the 186-kilometre by-pass road from Bangwe to Chigumula all the way to Mpemba passing through Michiru and Chileka where it will connect Lunzu, Mapanga, Zomba and Chiradzulu so as to ease transportation of goods and service.
On Chileka, Chikuli, Chithembwe road, the minister said government plans to make it a tarmac road to ease challenges faced by communities.
