The Northern Regions Football Association (NRFA) has urged the elite League returnees, Chitipa United to have thorough preparations ahead of the 2023 tnm Super League.
The Lions of Fort Hills have returned to the elite league after winning the Simso-Innobuild Northern Region Football League in the 2022 season.
This is their third time in history to taste the heat of the Super League after failing to survive in their previous two spells. They played in the elite league for the first time in 2018 but they were relegated after finishing at number 16 before returning in the 2020-22 season and they were also relegated.
On Saturday, Chitipa United had the chance to grab the Nyasa Capital Finance Cup but they were beaten by Mayamiko Stars 4-3 on penalties.
Making his remarks, the Chairperson of the Northern Region Football governing body, Dr. Lameck Zetu Khonje said Chitipa should sign some players from Mayamiko to strengthen their squad.
“Mayamiko Stars have some good players that if Chitipa negotiates with, they can help them in the Super League. For example, the boy who was operating from the wing, Chisomo, a good lad. If Chitipa negotiates with him and his team, he can help him.
“We have already informed our sponsors, both Innobuild and Smama that we have wrapped up the season and Chitipa are the Champions and they are returning to the elite league. They have assured us that they will give us the money for Chitipa to start their preparations ahead of the tnm Super League. We are hopeful that we will hold the prize presentation in January,” said Khonje.
