The 2023 Airtel Top-8 Cup final played on December 17 at Bingu National Stadium between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers grossed a record revenue of K53,554,000.00
The gross revenue has beaten the MK48.9 million realized during the FDH Bank Cup Final involving the same teams at the same
venue on 24th September 2022.
According to the statement released by the Football Association of Malawi, the total direct expenses for staging the match amounted to MK10.8 million and net revenue was MK42.7 million.
Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Ground Levy [Bingu National Stadium] walked away with their 25% portion from the total revenue which is K10,686,451.40 each while Football Association of Malawi and Malawi National Sports Council pocketed 20% and 5% each which is K8,549,161.12 and K 2,137,290.28 respectively.
A renowned Football analyst, Charles “The Grandmaster” Nyirenda said the match organisers did a great job but he expected it to be not less than K55 Million.
“A little bit [satisfied]. Mnyumba muja munali anthu 30000 kumapeto kuja. Ndiye pa mixture ya 2000 ndi 3000 I would have been happier from 55m upwards,” said Grandmaster.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers beat Nyasa Big Bullets 5-3 on penalties to win the Airtel Top-8 Cup.

Early in the morning of the day before match day, The Football Association of Malawi had announced that they had already raked in over K22 Million after 4 days of selling the tickets.
“We are thankful for e response from the Football fans,” said Marketing Director Limbani Matola earlier on Saturday.
In a statement, Fam said from the total revenue, 58% which is translated into K30,908,000.00 was realised from the Advanced Tickets Sales while K23,646,000.00 was realised from Matchday Ticket Sales.
“It is more pleasing to note that over 58% of the gross thus MK30.9 million is revenue realised from advance ticket sales whose services were professionally provided by NITEL. This speaks volumes that our football fans are increasingly becoming more aware of the benefits of advance ticketing system.
“And FAM will continue to lobby and encourage football administrators and teams to increase the adoption rate as we look ahead into the 2023 season,” reads part of the media release.
Charles Nyirenda said the Advanced Tickets Sales is a welcomed development but it needs transparency and accountability.
“Under controlled conditions with water tight transparent measures on ticket production, safety and sales management, the system of Advanced Tickets Sales is OK. In my 3yrs at FAM, this is what I did and did successfully. Koma pasalowe za chinyengo,” added Nyirenda.
Only Nyasa Big Bullets have managed to pre-sell their home-game Tickets this season.
