Man arrested over possession of live ammunition in Lilongwe


Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 47 year old man for allegedly being found in possession of 10 rounds of live ammunition (.45 auto calibre).

The man identified as Henry Kanyinji, was arrested on Sunday December 11, 2022 at about 11: 00 hours.

Kanyinji was traveling in a minibus from South Africa to Lilongwe.

When the minibus reached M1 Roadblock ( Six Miles), one of the police officers stopped it for searching.

Whilst in the course of searching, the officer came across 10 live ammunition which were hidden in a small bag inside a laptop bag.

Eventually, an arrest of the suspect was effected.

Kanyinji comes from Vilimumu village, Traditional Authority Kabunduri in Nkhatabay.

Meanwhile, Lilongwe Police Station has intensified security checks in all roadblocks and all areas both rural and urban and rural ahead of the festive season.
