Police at Kanengo in Lilongwe have arrested two people, a woman and her fiancee for allegedly stealing about 5,000 US Dollars belonging to the former’s boss.

The two are Chrissy Banda aged 30, of Kabwazi Village in Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo and Alfred Paul aged 31, of Ng’ombe Village in Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje.

The arrest of the two follows a tip police received from well wishers that Paul, a kabaza taxi operator, had suddenly changed his life style to the extent of buying two motorcycles within a short period of time. Working on the tip, the law enforcers arrested him on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 and seized the two motorcycles.

After further investigations, police learnt that Paul got the money from Banda who allegedly stole the money at Martha Kaukonde’s house in Area 18 B where she was working as a maid.

Following this, police arrested the woman the following day, November 30, 2022 during which they also recovered assorted kitchen utensils belonging to Kaukonde who did not know about this until police called her.

Banda and Paul will appear before court as soon as paper work is through.

Police wish to advise people to be cautious when employing and entrusting house servants with some responsibilities to avoid further incidents of this nature. Police further warn the general public against receiving items from friends and relatives without being sure of the source of those items.

Meanwhile, police wish to sincerely applaud the cordial relationship with the general public which helps in fighting crime in the area and hope that this will continue in sustaining safety and security.
