The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences formerly College of Medicine and Kamuzu College of Nursing has revealed that it is planning to build a state of art KUHeS National Hospital in Blantyre.
Making the announcement of the planning was the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor MacPherson Malewa in Blantyre on Thursday in Blantyre during the Research Dissemination Conference which was held under the theme “Excellence for Life: Through Multidisciplinary Research and Innovations” at the Mahat Maghandi Campus.
“As KUHeS, we have ably produced research which has been been a Centre for policy changing impacts nationally, regionally and globally. We have plans to erect a state of art KUHeS National Hospital to be built at Chileka. The budget of this Hospital is pegged at One Billion Euros. We are currently constructing a classic administration block which is tuned at USD17 Million,” said Malewa.
The Chairperson of the University’s Council, Professor Francis Moto said the construction of the State of art KUHeS National Hospital will automatically bar the sending of patients abroad for treatment and this will save the much needee forex exchange in the country.
Presiding over the Conference was the minister of Education Agness Nyalonje who has backed the Research as the key tool for Malawi to realise the vision 2063.
“Our research should also address mental health issues in our learning institutions, both public and private because only mentally able human capital contributes towards the development agenda. We must regard research as a great too in our learning institution if we are to develop into an upper class economy by 2063,” said Nyalonje.
