Man arrested for offering for sale a grandson in Chitipa


Police in Chitipa have arrested a 67-year-old, Harold Simphosya for allegedly offering for sale a grandson in the District.
It is reported that on November 19,2022, the suspect who lives at Yonna village went to his step daughter’s home at Ibanda village who lives with her two children and took a 7 -year -old son on pretence that he would buy him new clothes at Chitipa Trading Centre.
The suspect spent a night with the boy at his home.
The following day,he went to Chitipa Trading Centre with the boy where he started offering him for sale at a price of three hundred thousand kwacha (k300,000.00).
The prospective buyer promptly tipped the police who rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.
The suspect will appear in Court soon to answer abduction and child trafficking charges.
Simphosya hails from Yonna village in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
Meanwhile, the police in district are warning people against engaging in trafficking in persons and that will arrest anyone found trafficking people.
