Blantyre humiliation casualties to battle for points

The two teams that were humiliated in Blantyre last weekend, Karonga United and Mafco FC are back in action today as they are battling for points in the tnm Super League at Chitowe Stadium.
Karonga United were ruthlessly hammered 7-0 by Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday while Mafco suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the Airtel Top 8 Cup opening matches.
In League, the hosts stunned the champions and the league leaders, Nyasa Big Bullets in their previous game at Dedza Stadium while Karonga United are coming from a 3-2 victory over Red Lions.
Mafco are currently on number 6 with 46 points from 28 games while Karonga United are on number 11 with 31 points from 27 games.
They have met 9 times in all competitions and Mafco have won 3 times while Karonga have won two times with 4 ties ending in stalemate.
In the first round, Karonga United beat Mafco 1-0 at Karonga Stadium courtesy of Josiah Duwah’s strike and they are yet to lose to Mafco in five games.
The last time the Crocodiles suffered a defeat to the Salima based Soldiers was in 2016 when Richard Mbulu scored a hat-trick while Hygiene Mwendepeka scored a consolation goal for the Northerners.
Karonga United Head Coach, Christopher Nyambose said they need to walk out from the defeat to Nyasa Big Bullets and see where they can rectify to win the game against Mafco.
“That was a cup game which is like a gamble. We lost the game and we noted where we did not do well and we have to rectify on it. This is a league game, and we need to win it for us ro move up on the table. We are ready for the game and we need to collect points though it will be a difficult game but we need to entertain our supporters, ” said Nyambose.
After the game against Mafco, Karonga United will travel to Kasungu to face the relegated TN Stars before returning to Blantyre to face Nyasa Big Bullets which will be their last game of the season in the league.
