DPP condemns the arrest of Mbele and Leaders of AAI
The former Rulling and now Opposition Party, Democratic Progressive has condemned the arrest of Joshua Chisa Mbele and Leaders of Action Against Impunity describing it as unlawful and unconditional.
Chisa Mbele who was leading the Anti-Government Demonstrations in Lilongwe on Friday was arrested together with 31 others by the Police citing inciting violence as the reason.
According to reports, Mbele has been dehumanised and tortured by the police in the Custody and Democratic Progressive Party in a statement signed by the Party’s Administrative Secretary, Francis Mphepo said they are disgusted by the reports.
“Malawians may wish to know that it is a grounded right to assemble with others and demonstrate peacefully and unarmed against the ills of government. This right is enshrined in The Constitution of Malawi, which is the Supreme Law of the Land.
“Boma ili la MCP lamalanadi. We are therefore not surprised with the wanton and unlawful arrests, all aimed at buying some lifeline while they silence Malawians demanding an end to massive looting, impunity and incompetence., regrettably, Championed by President Chakwera and his Vice,” reads part of the statement.
The Democratic Progressive has, therefore, called upon President Chakwera and his government to unconditionally and immediately release Mr Joshua Mbele and Colleagues from Police Custody saying failing to do so, they will call for a national wide demonstration aimed at making his government ungovernable.
