Dpp calls upon Tonse Govt to facilitate planned Demonstrations
The former Rulling and now Opossition Party, Democratic Progressive has endorsed the planned 28th October Anti-Government Demonstrations arguing that the demonstrations are in the Constitution of Malawi.
In a statement signed by the Party’s Administrative Secretary, Francis Mphepo, DPP has since called upon the Tonse Alliance Government to facilitate the planned Demonstrations by providing necessary security to persons and property.
“The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is calling all Malawians and its members to join the upcoming Demonstrations slated for Thursday, the 28th and Friday the 29th October, 2022 in Blantyre, Zomba, Mzuzu and Lilongwe organised by Mr. Joshua Chisa Mbele, and colleagues of Action Against Impunity against the Tonse Alliance Government institutionalised corruption, incompetent and impunity.
“The Constitution of Malawi, which is the Supreme Law of the land provides for the Right of Malawians to assemble and demonstrate with others peacefully and unarmed,” reads part of the statement.
The party has, however, issued a stern warning to Tonse Government against directly or indirectly frustrating and tampering with this right to demonstrate.
“All leaders of the party at area, constituency, district, regional and national level committees are called to mobilize Malawians to join these demonstrations,” adds the statement.
