International day of commemorating older persons to be held Mzuzu


Malawians will on Friday this week (21st October) join the rest of the world in commemorating the International day of the older persons to be held Mzuzu

Initially, 1st October every year is set aside by the United Nations as an International Day of Older Persons but here in Malawi main activities marking the day will be held at Chibavi Ground in Mzuzu City.

In a statement released on 1st October this year, the Malawi Network of Elderly Persons Organization (MANEPO) requested government to follow up on all cases of people believed to have killed elder persons.

The Executive Director for Malawi Network of Older Persons Organization (MANEPO) Andrew Kavala said the day is very significant considering loads of inspiring older adults who are curious always exploring ways on how to sharpen the new generation into achieving their goals.

“We are so grateful to have communities who are so engaged and so enthusiastic to work with senior citizens to better their livelihoods,” Kavala said.

The theme for this year’s day of the older persons is ‘Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World, Heightening Resilience of Older Women’
