Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Head Coach, Alex Ngwira said he is impressed by the track records of the newly appointed Technical Director, Mark Simon Harrison.
The new technical director landed in the country through Chileka Airport on Wednesday and Harrison described his reception at the family as marvelous.
Ngwira who has suffered only one defeat since his appointment as the Coach of the Club said the addition of the former Everton goalkeeper will add value in their technical team.
“We are impressed when we look at his track records. We know that he is adding value to what we already have and this will propel us to go some heights.
“He is a vast experience Coach altogether, he has been in so many countries apart from having worked in UK with some Clubs. So, his expertise will really help us,” said Ngwira.
Harrison who coached teams in Africa such as Gor Mahia, Harare City, Twonship Rollers signed a two-year contract with the team and his contract started on October 1, 2022.
A game against Kamuzu Barracks will be his first game in Malawi and the Technical director has started executing his duties today [Tuesday].
He said that his aim is to take the team back to its glory time and make a breakthrough in the African Football.
“My brief when I came is to try to take the Club to another level. Its not a only about a Senior team, its about the Football club. We are all aware where we are right here in Malawi, we are one of the biggest Clubs in the country and we need to be the biggest Club in the country. That’s what we want to achieve as a Club. We to go into continental football and try to achieve there as well.
“It’s not just on the field, it’s also off the field, we need to grow as a football club, am in a club that Commercialised some two to three months ago, and that’s a big step and there are alot to do [On and off the field]. That’s the reason that they Roughton me here because of my knowledge and experience in a game of football and obviously in African football. I worked in South Africa quite a lot, so what I can bring to the football club its technical side of it,” said Harrison.
He added that he will use the 9 games that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have left with in the tnm Super League to assess the squad.
“After that [assessing the squad],we will sit down with the coaches and prepare for the next season. And then with Reserve and the youth team,it’s the same story,we gave to look at it, assess it, and this is a project. I have signed a two-year contract and its a project to make something happen in that two years. The willing is there, and they have got good sponsorship and am sure we can do it,” he added.
Harrison has a come at a time when the Club is striving for success after going 4 years without winning any silverware and they are currently on number 4 with 40 points from 21 games, 16 points behind the leaders, Nyasa Big Bullets.
