The State President, Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will not attend this year’s Mlhakho wa Alhomwe Cultural festival as the organisers of the ceremony has confirmed that they have no intention of inviting him for the ceremony.

Dr Chakwera has been attending several cultures festivals in Malawi and abroad. He was in Zambia for the Chewa’s kulamba Ceremony after attending another ceremony in Mzimba for the Umthetho.

Both Chakwera and Chilima attended the Ngoni’s Umhlangano ceremony in Ntcheu but he is not going to attend the ceremony in the Southern Region.

Lhomwe’s Southern Region vice Chairperson, Blessings Makwinja said they have decided not to invite him for the ceremony because he is a leader who ignores Lhomwe’s voices.

Makwinja said Chakwera failed to deal with the hate speeches made by some people towards the tribe.

“We don’t want to compromise our operations hence we have decided to exclude President Chakwera from yhe event. He is a leader who does not listen to our voices, ” said Makwinja.

He further said there are internal plans by the government to stop the event from happening but as a group, they are ready for the challenge.

This year’s event is slated for October 9, 2022 in Chonde, Thyolo District and its budget has been pegged at K180 million.
