7 years jail for Pastor in Mangochi
A pastor for Living Waters Church in Mangochi, Edward Samkera,32, has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment with hard labour for raping an 18-year-old girl, who was a member of the church.
Station Prosecution Officer, Inspector Amos Mwase, told Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe, that, in February 2021, Pastor Samkera and his wife based at Chilipa in the district asked the girl’s parents to allow her to stay with them at their house, a thing which the parents agreed.
Mwase said, months later the man of God started visiting her bedroom where he raped the girl on several occasions.
“On November 8, 2021, after being abused for so long, the girl gathered courage and narrated the ordeal to a prophet in the same church who reported the matter at Chilipa Police Unit, before medical results indicated, the girl survived abuse,” Mwase submitted before the court.
