The Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church have divulged it’s plans to build two big churches in the two major Cities in the Country, Lilongwe and Blantyre.
Speaking during the Cruise 5 programme, the founder of the denominations, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri says plans are in place to have the mega churches built in the two cities.
He said that the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church started their plans of building big churches in the country during the Democratic Progressive Party’s era but they were facing resistance from the government as their proposals were not approved.
“We have plans to build big churches in Lilongwe, Blantyre. We gave the City Council our proposals for approval. For ten years, our proposals were not being approved. We were facing some resistance from the previous government but up to now am yet to know the reason behind the resistance,” said Bushiri.
Prophet Bushiri said the current government has given them a go ahead with their plans of building the praying house with biggest capacities.
“The current government is directing us on what to do. The project will take time as you know that a mega church is different from the normal church. The model and capacity of the churches to be built in Lilongwe and Blantyre are different from the normal churches.
“We are dealing with some technical things as the churches to be built in the two cities are mega churches. The delay was made during the previous government as they were not even approving our proposals, but with the current government, there will not be any further delays,” added Bushiri.
Shepherd Bushiri further said that Enrighten Christian Church has built over 40 churches in the country. Karonga, Dedza, Mzuzu are some of thr districts that Shepherd Bushiri said churches for the ECG have already been built.
Bushiri is building an expansive hotel complex in the eastern city of Mangochi on the shores of Lake Malawi, Goshen City, due to open in October, will comprise a hotel, a lodge, a school, a clinic, apartments, a chapel, a church, a business park and a sports arena, according to the construction plans but admitted that there are some compliances that are resisting some projectsto be built at the highly rated City.
He tried a similar project in South Africa, ignoring environmental planning laws. Despite the extradition process, Bushiri says the Malawian state is supportive.
Bushiri said Goshen City is a futuristic, commercial, tourist smart city located in Malawi with administratively defined boundaries whose members will work primarily on both agricultural and non-agricultural tasks.
“We would like to see Malawi becoming a regional hub for technology, tourism and medical care. This in turn will drive more people to Malawi that will boast foreign exchange, hence improving Malawi’s economy,” Bushiri said.
