Lyton Chinong’one leave it late to peel off Eagles’ wings and gives Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve a famous win over Blue Eagles with a display that will render Eliya Kananji nightmares.
The Junior people’s team came from behind to stage a classic 2-1 comeback and appall Eagles at a red-painted Kamuzu Stadium.
In the first half, Nyasa Big Bullets were the architect of their downfall as they missed several chances.
With guns blazing, Bullets Reserve had their first attempt within the first 5 minute as the midfielder, Felix Demakude called John Soko into action after unleashing a heavy shot from outside the box.
Blue Eagles will experience, they tried to play long balls to take advantage of the heights of the Chatama’s players. Micium Mhone who was operating from the right flank was tightly marked by Captain Yamikani Mologeni who had an afternoon to remember and he was named the man of the match.
Maxwell Gustavo had been the outstanding pillar at the back of Blue Eagles. He had saved Eagles from demolition in the first 15 minutes when he made two tackles to prevent Bullets Reserve from finding the back of the net.
Blue Eagles reorganised themselves and start catching up with Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve’s pace and Eagles broke Reserve’s defence after a beautiful display of football that saw Gilbert Chirwa, Mhone and Schumacker Kuwali involved but they couldn’t beat the offside trap that was set by the Youthful defenders.
Emmanuel Saviel who was using his pace and dribbles to give Sankhani Mkandawire tough time, broke through the left flank but he rifled his ball wide, Eagles survived.
But Sankhani Mkandawire was taken off after sustaining injury in the 41st minute, Saviel knew that he had opportunity to express himself because the Veteran defender had a mission with him, allowing Bullets fans to wallow in the elation of a superb performance in the Cup as their team moved into semifinals.
Wongani Kaponya cancelled Chifuniro Mpinganjra’s opener before Lyton Chinong’one netted the winning goal in added time.
Coach for Blue Eagles, Eliya Kananji accepted the defeat.
“We are wishing Bullets Reserve all the best. They have played well. We told our boys not to lose concentration in the second half but things haven’t worked as we planned. It’s a painful defeat but we just need to go back to the drawing board and re-electrify where possible,” said Eliya Kananji.
Enos Chatama said his boys have performed beyond his expectations.
“I was not expecting my boys to reach this far, Blue Eagles is a good side and they played well only that God has favoured us,” said Chatama.
