Hammers, Silver Share Points
Ekwendeni Hammers and Silver Strikers have shared one point each after a one all draw in TNM Super League at Mzuzu Stadium with both goals being scored in the first half.
The game saw the Central Bankers starting on fire as they opened the scoring after only 4 minutes of the game through Maxwell Phodo who scored after receiving the ball from Chawanangwa Kaonga on the left side.
Few minutes later Hammers started organizing themselves, and in the 33rd minute Gift Chunda missed a golden chance with an empty goal.
At 42 minutes Hammers levelled the game through Yohane Nkhoma with a beautiful goal after a mistake by Silver Strikers defence which gave a chance to Gift Chunga to pass it to Nkhoma for an equaliser .
In the second half both Hammers and Silver tried to push into the winner but failed to finish as they missed several chances.
Speaking to Silver Strikers assistant coach Mc Donald Yobe, he blamed the condition of the ground for his team’s dismal display.
“Our boys played well despite the bad condition of the ground which is very bumpy, all in all that’s part of the game,” said Yobe.
The home team Coach Gilbert Chirwa said it seems he has been welcomed well being his first match after being appointed coach.
“It was a good game as you are aware I have been with the team for two days and it looks that they have already started implementing what I taught them, in short they welcomed me very well that’s why we managed to contain Silver Strikers,” said Chirwa.
With the result, Hammers are still on position 14 with 15 points from 19 games so far played while Silver Strikers sit on position 6 from 18 games with 28 points.
