Boy 9 commits suicide in Nkhata Bay
A Standard 3 learner of Bwelelo Primary School in Nkhatabay District, Thomas Banda, 9, has died by hanging himself under the roof of his parents’ house at Bwelero for reasons not yet known.
It was reported that on August 14, 2022 in the afternoon, Thomas was playing with his friends within the home-yard.
Suddenly, he left his friends without saying anything and went into his parents’ house where he reportedly hanged himself.
When his mother entered the house she found her son hanging and struggling for breath. He was rescued and rushed to Nkhata Bay District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem conducted at the hospital revealed that the boy died due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Meanwhile, police in the district have launched investigations to find out what drove the boy to the decision of committing suicide
