Mulanje man arrested for defilement
Police at Muloza in Mulanje are keeping in custody a 74-year-old man, Watson Kasanjinga, for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old Standard 3 girl.
On August 7 this year, the victim’s mother went to the market to buy relish leaving her at home. On her return, she observed that her daughter was failing to walk and that her private parts had some semen. Upon interviewing her, she revealed that she had been defiled by the said suspect who stays near the victim’s parents.
Following this, the mother reported to police at Muloza who referred the girl to the hospital where examination discovered some bruises on the girl’s private parts.
When the news spread, the suspect’s relatives started implicating a different person to shield their own. Following proper investigations, police with support from community members arrested Kasanjinga on Thursday, August 11, 2022 and charged him with defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
Kasanjinga comes from Malunda Village, Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje and will appear in court soon.
Police strongly condemns the tendency as it defeats efforts aimed at protecting girl children.
