Man arrested over human trafficking in Mulanje
Police at Muloza in Mulanje have arrested a 27-year-old man, Zakaliya Njazi, for allegedly trafficking three women.
The three have been identified as Juliet Guba, 23 of Tondeza Village, Traditional Authority Maseya in Chikwawa, Esther Moyo, aged 20 of Sekani Village, Traditional Authority Lizulu in Dedza and Felesiya Josamu, aged 24 of Chingu Village, Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza.
On Thursday, July 21 2022 at about 11:00 hours police officers responsible for boarder security were on duty along the boarder. While on duty, they intercepted the suspect who was trying to cross over to Mozambique using unchartered routes with the said women who had no travel documents. According to the women, Njazi promised them jobs when they go to Mozambique.
Following this, the law enforcers arrested Njazi who has since been charged with Trafficking in Persons contrary to section 14 of Trafficking in Persons Act.
Njazi hails from Chendausiku Village in the area of Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka.
Police strongly condemns the malpractice as it is a violation of human rights. Police further warns that anyone taking part in such the malpractice will be arrested.
