Mafco stage a classic comeback to Hammer Rumphi United
A goal from Paul Ndhlovu and a brace from Mphatso Philimon were enough for the Malawi Armed Force College, Mafco Football Club to stage a classic comeback and demolish Rumphi United at Rumphi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Realising that time to fight for their survival is flying away, Rumphi United started the game brightly hoping to scoop three points that would lift them to another level.
Their toil paid off in the 25th minute as Philimon Zgovu found the back of the net beating former Silver Strikers Blessings Kameza who was on the goal posts for Salima based Soldiers.
In the second half, Captain Paul Ndhlovu took the responsibility into his own hands as he levelled the matter to bring back his teammates into the game.
Coach for Rumphi United, Jimmy Butao in his desperate for the win, he took out Alick Harawa for their top scorer, Trouble Kajani.
The change paid nothing as Mphatso Philimon completed his brace to render the Soldiers a victory in the North.
After the game, Coach for Mafco who started the League with struggles, Stereo Gondwe was happy with the win.
“We took advantage to the direction of wind that flows here at Rumphi Stadium. We had an understudy before playing them. Things have gone the way we planned, and we are happy,” said Gondwe.
On his part, Rumphi United assistant coach, Jimmy Butao was disappointed with the results but vowed to rectify the problems as soon as possible.
“We are trying to identify what wrong with the team. We will solve it as soon as possible if we notices it. We need to escape the chop in the league,” said Butao.
