One dies in Mzimba road accident

A 27 years old man identified as Brave Mbewe has died after being involved in a road accident at Nyemba in the district.

The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number MN 6761 Honda Fit which was being driven by Jophat Bulukutu 39, of Machecheta Village in Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba district and motor vehicle registration number KK 6670 Toyota Rumion being driven by Florence Mndala 47 of Makuta Village in Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.

The accident occurred on Saturday August 6, 2022 at around 2030 hours near Nyemba area in the district along Jenda – Kasungu M1 road.

Bulukutu was driving from the direction of Mzuzu heading Jenda with one passenger on board Brave Mbewe (now deceased). Upon arrival at Nyemba, Bulukutu was trying to overtake a truck and in the process of overtaking he had a head on collision with an on coming vehicle which was being driven by Florence Mndala with two passengers on board; Lt. Colonel Christian Mndala C/O Moyale Barracks and Trinity Mndala. Mndala and family was coming from the direction of Jenda heading Mzuzu.

Due to the impact, Lt. Colonel Mndala sustained chest pains, and swollen eye, Frolence Mndala sustained serious injuries, Brave Mbewe sustained internal injuries, Jophart Bulukutu sustained internal injuries and fractures on both legs while Trinity Mndala escaped with minor injuries.

They were referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital and Mbewe died on Sunday August 7, 2022 while receiving treatment.

Mbewe hailed from Changaza Village in the Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in Mzimba district.

Police in the district are advising all road users to observe road signs inorder to avoid such accidents.
