Nkhata Bay Police registers 17 percent decrease in road accidents
Nkhata Bay Police Station has registered 17 percent decrease in recorded road accidents from January to June this year against the same period in 2021.
According to a bi-annual report released through the station’s Research and Planning Branch, 58 road accidents were recorded in 2021 compared to 48 recorded this year representing a 17 percent decrease.
The report has further shown that 14 fatal road accidents with 14 people losing lives were recorded in 2021 compared to 11 fatal road accidents with 12 deaths recorded in 2022 representing 21 percent decrease.
Similarly, serious road accidents have gone down by 46 percent as the report has shown that 13 accidents of such nature were registered in 2021 while 7 accidents have been recorded in 2022.
Nkhata Bay Police Station therefore continues to intensify traffic checks and ad-hoc roadblocks in all accident prone areas to enhance prevention of road accidents.
The station further enhances awareness programmes on road safety through various channels of communication such as community meetings, media awareness, schools outreach programs and all other available channels of communication.
Nkhata Bay Police urges road users in the district to always observe road safety rules and regulations including checking both sides of the road before crossing, to further reduce road accidents.
