Fuel shortage hits Mzuzu city
There is no gasoline in the city of Mzuzu as cars are waiting in long queues in some of the fuel pumps in the city.
As of 6am on Friday long long lines of vehicles could be seen near Clock tower Puma filling station trying to access fuel.
Mzuzu has about 10 fuel pumps but only two have petrol and diesel while others don’t have even a single drop.
One of the tax drivers in town Jonas Msimuko said this has affected their businesses as they are not moving since their car tanks are empty.
“We are down and we don’t know what to do, everything stopped and there is no fuel in our car tanks, no where to go our businesses depends on fuel to run,” said Msimuko.
One of the pump attendants, (name withheld) said they were advised to sell diesel only to notable customers.
“We don’t have petrol but we are still keeping little quantity of diesel but our top boss told us not to sell to everyone except those notable customers,” she said.
Unconfirmed reports shows that it might be another hike of fuel in the next hours or days that has prompted the shortage.
Malawi energy regulatory Authority MERA are yet to comment on the matter.
